Who We Are
We enhance the community by addressing the basic human needs of wellness, belongingness and esteem.
What We Do
Since its founding in 1975, Claymont Community Center (CCC) has been a primary source of human services for more than 35,000 individuals and families in the greater Claymont area. CCC is a unique, one-stop-shop for social and human services and recreational activities. CCC serves children and adults regardless of age, race, or socio-economic status. The majority of our clients are classified as low-income households; many of them are also medically uninsured. Last year, CCC served over 5,000 clients with our vast array of services, and with our tenant agencies, the facility helped more than 15,000 people of all ages.
CCC manages the following programs/services:
- Brandywine Senior Center: Individuals age 50 and older can take advantage of a well-rounded array of programs and services including transportation, meals, exercise, social interaction, educational sessions, computer literacy programs, and companionship.
- Empowered Youth: an afterschool program for 5th through 8th Program helps students be the best they can be academically, socially and emotionally. Students get help with homework, reduce stress and build self-esteem though drug prevention, wellness, yoga and fitness activities. Community leaders and business owners teach leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
- The Learning Center: Provides quality educational services. In partnership with the Christina School District, we provide basic adult learning classes that lead to a GED or high school diploma. We also offer a 16-week program with three levels of ESOL classes and a citizenship class. Finally, our role in adult education has provided us the opportunity to offer post-secondary scholarships to our local residents.
- CCC Food Closet: The Food Closet supports income-eligible clients and senior citizens through a partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware.
Our partnering tenant agencies include: Brandywine Child Care and Preschool, Claymont State Service Center, Center for Child Development, New Castle County Head Start, Home Helpers, Tomaro's Change and WIC. CCC also provides recreational and educational meeting space for community organizations.
