Who We Are
First State Community Action Agency is a private, statewide, anti-poverty nonprofit organization with a 53 year history of helping people of low-income become self-sufficient.Our mission is to work towards the elimination of poverty and lessen the effects of poverty on people of low-income.
What We Do
We achieve our mission by providing a range of services and activities having a measurable and potentially major impact on overall community welfare; this includes, access to health services and nutritious food; meaningful employment and training opportunities; housing and community development; and access to adequate education, energy conservation and financial literacy, and programs specifically designed to empower our most vulnerable citizens including seniors and children at risk.
Every year, First State touches the lives of more than 10,000 Delaware residents. For those affected by poverty, hunger, and unemployment, First State provides the tools to empower individuals to become thriving productive citizens and experience a better quality of life.
