On April 9, 2022; Delaware Racial Justice Collaborative along with partners; such as the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ), Network Connect, Delaware Department of Education (DDOE), and more are coming together to host Delaware’s first Black Student Summit. This event is scheduled to be held in Wilmington, DE from 9:00am – 1:00pm with a goal of serving at least 100 students. The student-led planning committee is hard at work planning all aspects of the event with the support of adult mentors.
Much like the purpose of the National Black Student Alliance (NBSA) serves to provide Black students and their allies a community, brave space and the opportunity for change, so too does Delaware’s first Black Student Summit seek to empower our next generation of leaders. This event is designed to wrap training and education around students who are or seek to become members of their school’s Black Student Union/Association. It’s also designed to create a new network for students connect and plug into resources and appropriate adult support. The theme student selected theme for this year is Amplify Black Youth Voices. The summit is meant to refuel, train, and uplift students and the adults that support them. We will offer training and education during the Summit to help students understand why it’s important to use their voice and how it do it appropriately.
