Who We Are

NSC is the premier resource for adults over the age of 50 in the greater Newark area. Innovative opportunities will be offered to meet the ever changing interests of members, allowing the Center and it’s participants to remain a vibrant part of the community. In 1956 the Newark Soroptimists surveyed the local community and came to the conclusion that there was a need for a place where older adults could gather. Ten years later, as a result of a lot of hard work and dedication, the Newark Senior Center opened its doors at 300 East Main St. The Center started as a small group of older adults socializing in the Meeting Room of the Newark Department store and has grown into its own community of over 3,500 members ages 50 and up. The Newark Senior Center is the first and only senior center in the state of Delaware nationally accredited by the National Institute of Senior Centers. The Board of Directors and Staff pride themselves on being able to provide a variety of programs and services to meet the needs of the Center’s members. A small portion of the Center’s funding comes from the state of Delaware Grant in Aid program, but the majority comes from fundraising events, individual donations, membership fees and grants.

What We Do

The Newark Senior Center enhances the lives of the 50+ community by providing resources and opportunities for growth in body, mind and spirit.
